Remembered to take a pic of an orchid in bloom for a change. These beauties are from a dwarf Oncidium "Twinkle Golden." As an aside, ever since the flower stalks have gone up, the leaves have started to yellow and appear to be dying off. The pseudobulbs are green and healthy and there are new roots being formed all the time. is this normal?

Enjoy the pics.

First Pleurothallis I've ever had bloom :)
Have had this one for about a year; moved it from one viv to a spot higher up in a different one and in a matter of weeks ... voila!

Pretty small ... maybe the size of a dime. Still, worth the wait :D

If the plant is sending out new roots and a new growth I would cosider that normal.
One growth one flower spike no mor flowers till the next growth matures. THe leavs probly withered because the energy from them was being used by the plant to make the flowers.

Thanks Stephen. New roots since I took the pic but no new leaves (and there were two flower spikes :) ). Do I need to fertilize and if so any recommendations that would be safe for frogs? (although this particular orchid isn't in with any right now). As an aside, the Edmonton Orchid Society show is this weekend! Somehow I have to find time to get there!

No recomendations as far as frog safe but I have been thinking of using aquarium fert. Its OK for fish so it may not harm the frogs.
Most orchids with no frog friends will do well with 1/4 strength regular fert.

I have always used aquarium fert on my orchids and broms in vivs with frogs. Haven't had any issues.

Some more new blooms. The second time it has flowered for me in the past year, but the first time I remembered to take pictures.

Hope you enjoy!

2 times in one year is good. It must be liking what you are giving it.
